Missing Friends

Two good friends gone in the same way. Both fell into crevasses. One was years and years ago and one was just the other day. The mountains have become a love hate relationship. Stop taking my friends.
I will miss you Brent. You always brought a smile to my face. We got off to a rough start in our friendship, but grew to be good friends. I am glad I got to see you recently as we had not been in touch in a while. It was good to see you. You will be missed. Rest in peace.

Sports/Activities I Enjoy

No wind here in the Dominican Republic for our whole trip. A little depressing. It has had me thinking about paddle in surfing and other sports that I do or have tried. I believe all sports have an enjoyment to effort ratio as well as a enjoyment to risk ratio. I should say "pure enjoyment" because there is always enjoyment from effort. I believe this ratio changes from athlete to athlete and from day to day depending on conditions. Here is my thoughts on a few sports:

Enjoyment to Effort Ratio

Kitesurfing - Very High
Snowkiting - Very High
Rock Climbing - High
Ice Climbing - Moderate
Hiking - Moderate
Sailing - Moderate
Mountaineering - Moderate
All Bicycling - Moderate to Low
Running - Low
Paddle Surfing - Low

Enjoyment to Risk Ratio

Kitesurfing - Very High
Snowkiting - High
Rock Climbing - High
Hiking - High
Sailing - High
Ice Climbing - Low
Mountaineering - Low
All Bicycling - Moderate
Running - Moderate
Paddle Surfing - Low

As you can see kite sports are what I love to do. Having said that, when there is no wind doing something is always better than doing nothing!

(Not meaning to diss anyones sport out there. This is just my assessment for myself. I am always impressed by good athlete in any discipline!)

Warm Places

I am lossing touch with my cold weather self. Used to love ice climbing and skiing and it seems less and less appealing every year. Especially since we have been spending most of our winter in warmer climates. And we are off again, this time to the Dominican Republic for a couple of weeks of kiteboarding.

Enjoying the sun and wind here in La Ventana, Baja, Mexico.  It has been a great trip.  Here is a link to Cheryle's Blog post from this trip and a couple of video's of the kiteboarding down here.
